Frequently Asked Questions
. . . your guide to Sass Babeness
1. What is boudoir photography?
Boudoir photography is a photographic style featuring intimate, romantic, and sometimes include erotic images of its subjects in a photographic studio, bedroom or private dressing room environment, primarily intended for the private enjoyment of the subject and his or her romantic partners. Boudoir photography is all about empowering and loving yourself. Stripping yourself of all your insecurities, and allowing yourself to be feel beautiful.
2. Are you sure I can do this?
Yes. Yes you can. You can do this! YAAS!!!
I’ve heard everything from “I’m not pretty enough” to “I’m too fat” to “I’m too old for this” . . . and we have no doubt that you can do this. Even if you’ve never done anything like boudoir photography before, we are here to make you feel comfortable every step of the way.
Ladies, you are enough. I promise you that. These sessions are all about loving yourself. Let me show you how beautiful you are, how gorgeous your body is, and how amazing you truly are! Boudoir does not have a specific size or look – it is for every woman.
3. Do I need to know how to pose?
I will pose you from the tip of your toes to the way your hair lays. I will do all the hard work to help you from start to finish. You do not have to worry about a thing and I promise we’ll make your experience stress-free and empowering. I know exactly how to pose all types of women to look their very very best. I will direct you every step of the way, from helping you prepare for your boudoir shoot with wardrobe and grooming tips, to posing every inch of you, to coaching your breathing through the session. You just need to show up and TRUST ME.
4. How do I prepare for my photo shoot?
Once you’ve scheduled your session, you’ll receive a welcome email from me where I’ll share the link to my online Boudoir Prep Guide. My guide has some helpful hints and tricks to get you prepared for your session day, including suggestions on wardrobe and lingerie. Ultimately, wearing whatever makes you feel sexy is the best option but I’ve shot entire sessions with a just a bed sheet so wardrobe is not something I like my clients stressing over. If after you receive my guide you have some questions, just reply to my email and I’d be happy to help.
5. What should I wear and/or bring for my session?
First – check out the Sass & Class Studios Portfolio pages for endless inspiration. You will learn how other women have embraced their femininity, beauty and innate sexiness before the camera. We have also curated some stunning boudoir looks on our Pinterest page which you may want to borrow for your special Sass Babe Boudoir session. Create your own Pinterest board and start pinning your ideas – and feel free to share with us so that we can get a feel for the vibe you’re going for. 6. How far in advance should I schedule my session?
If you have date and time restrictions for your session, such as you need your pictures back in time to gift for your anniversary or a birthday, I suggest contacting me as soon as possible to get your session scheduled. While last minute sessions are sometimes available, I do tend to book in advance and do not want you to miss out on such an exciting and rewarding experience. I always advise clients who need their pictures back by a certain date to schedule their session a minimum of 8 weeks before the day they hope to have their pictures in hand. Not only does this ensure you get onto my calendar, it also allows you sufficient time for all the prep that goes into a boudoir shoot — details which are available in our Boudoir Prep Guide.
Last minute sessions are considered to be a session that is being scheduled with less than 7 days until shoot date and will require a payment in full to schedule.
If you have special scheduling needs or time restrictions, please contact me for more information (and be sure to include a Scheduling reference in your subject line).
7. Can I bring a friend to my session?
The way you feel during your session greatly affects the overall look and feel of your final images. My job is to ease your nerves and help you feel as comfortable as possible so that you have an enjoyable session experience and a beautiful photo gallery. One of the most important things that I have learned over the last decade or so is that less is more and while most people think that having a familiar face in the room during a session they are nervous about would be helpful, this actually isn’t so.
Outside influences can change the feel of the session, interrupt the flow of the shoot and break my concentration. Working one on one with a client or couple allows me to concentrate on you and be more productive. Because of this, I have a closed session policy. This means that I work one-on-one with my clients to ensure a private experience and only the person(s) being photographed are able to be present during the session. I encourage you to have a friend or loved one accompany you to my location if that makes you more comfortable, but it will just be you and me when it’s time for your session to begin.
The “exception” to this is if booking a Girlfriend Love session, which is a group session where you’ve gathered up your Besties to share in an afternoon of boudoir fun. You’ll each have your turn in the studio, and total group shots will be by request only.
8. What do you consider nudity & where will images be shown?
My personal and company policy on nudity is simple. I will never publish or share an image on my website or social media sites that show a full female nipple, a vagina, or penis (in the event of male clients). Bare bottoms, cleavage, side boob, backs, stomachs, and sexually suggestive images are frequently shared and are not something that I consider to be offensive.
As I’m sure you can understand, potential clients often need to see a portfolio of work before deciding a photographer is right for them. Every image shared on my website and social media sites are images that were captured and retouched for a client. I am proud to give my potential clients a good representation of what they can expect from a session with me, which is why I have always opted to share client images.
Prior to releasing web appropriate images from your session to be shared with potential clients, you will be asked to sign a model release at your photo shoot. If a client prefers I do not identify &/or tag them on social media, then I must be advised of this in writing prior to, or at time of image reveal (text or email will suffice). All other personal information is never shared.
If you would prefer that I do not release web appropriate images from your session to be shared with potential clients, I will certainly respect that and will not have you sign a model release. Again, I must be advised of this in writing prior to, or at time of image reveal (text or email will suffice).
- social media platforms – public &/or closed groups (Note: my private/closed groups are for Females only)
- my business websites
- for use in-studio, at gallery showings, other events where I showcase my work
- images within a sample album, brochures &/or other marketing materials
My primary concern is always the comfort and happiness of my clients. 💞
9. Where will my session take place?
Your session will take place in my studio, or if on-location, the hotel, studio or rental property I provide for the session.
10. I can’t make it to Calgary. Can you come to my city?
I frequently travel to my clients for their sessions and I’d love to come to your city. When traveling, I provide my clients with a session experience either in a hotel, studio or rental property that is local to the area. Sessions are available worldwide. Travel fees do apply. Contact me for details (and be sure to include a Travel reference in your subject line).
